Baby steps

You have taken a few lessons. Sweated it out at the driving range. Now what? Before you head out to the course, here are some tips:

1. A cardinal sin on any course is to slow down the pace of play. Get the scorecard but don't keep score. Remember it's your 1st round. Just go out there and have fun.
2. Make sure both you and your buddies have their own set of clubs each.
3. Golfers tend to have very limited patience for beginners (Trust me. You don't want to be called a f****** idiot) If you can't make a par-3 in 6 attempts. Give up. Move on to the next hole.
4. Get a golf cart. It's fun riding in one. Plus it speeds up play.
5. You will need lots of balls - 18 for a twosome. I played my 1st round with only 6 balls. Guess what? I was out of them by the 6th hole. You will lose a lot of them.
6. Bring your camera - snap some pictures. Afterall this is your very 1st time.
7. Keep it simple - play with your most comfortable clubs. Don't use a driver on a par-3 if it's your worst shot. Use a 7-iron instead.
8. Consider letting a foursome playing right behind you move ahead. You don't want to keep them waiting. More importantly, once they are ahead, you can have much more fun - strut your stuff.
9. Don't take more than one pratice shot. You always have the driving range.
10. Always hit the ground first with an iron. It's okay to take a divot. Remember to repair it afterwards.

Pardon the interruption

Now that my journey to Tierra del Fuego is not happening anytime soon. While we wait on it - I say - let's write about something else. I have taken on to golf recently. Going from being an arm chair fan of golf to finally playing a full round last weekend. So as a rookie golfer I am going to write about my experiences with this game. Talk about how much fun and at the same time stressful taking up golf can be. Offer any tips and suggestions for anyone interested in taking a swing at it (Yeah right! As if I have played on the PGA Tour) So let's get started...

I have a dream

One day as an 11 year old in the 7th grade, more than 11 years back, in my Geography class. I learned about an island tucked away at the bottom of the globe, almost 11,000 miles away. Since then, it's always been a dream to visit that island, the southern most place in the world: Tierra del Fuego! Now that I am only 6600 miles away from the "Land of Fire," let's hope I convert that 11 year old dream into reality. I am giving myself another 11 years to achieve that. In the meantime, welcome to my blogs, as I take you on
"The Passage to Tierra del Feugo..."
